Here are my top 5 geek-peaks:
1. Virtual Reality to Augmented Reality
2. Photoshop's new content-aware function
(faaaaaaaaacking awesome!)
3. Colour-changing contact lenses that keep diabetics in the know of the glucose levels in their blood
4. A tiny device that turns contaminated water into potable water.. brings high hopes for the countries ravaged by natural disasters and those who are simply too poor to implement a proper water infrastructure that provides access to all.
A new approach to desalination being developed by researchers at MIT and in Korea could lead to small, portable units that could be powered by solar cells or batteries and could deliver enough fresh water to supply the needs of a family or small village. As an added bonus, the system would also remove many contaminants, viruses and bacteria at the same time. The new system (called ion concentration polarization) separates salts and microbes from the water by electrostatically repelling them away from the ion-selective membrane in the system — so the flowing water never needs to pass through a membrane. That should eliminate the need for high pressure and the problems of fouling [in reverse osmosis].
5. Makmende -- the new Kenyan hit pop star
Ok -- this has nothing to do with Technology.. but those are some damn catchy Kenyan beats.
